This week, the General Choice Transfer Portal opened this week for students who are on General Choice Transfer. If you are currently on a general choice transfer to SHS, you do not have to renew your transfer because your student is approved through his or her twelfth grade year. The deadline for completing the General Choice Transfer process is March 25, 2016. If you have questions or concerns about your student’s general transfer, please visit the district website

For all students who paid their $325 senior activity fees, the following off-campus events will take place during the month of March. Students will not have to arrange transportation. The school will provide transportation to and from all events held off campus with the exception of one event. The only activity that students should provide their own transportation is for the Senior Out To Lunch Event. For the senior out to lunch event, students will need a signed parental permission form. The Senior events for the month of March are the following:
- Senior Breakfast – Clark Tower – March 11, 2016
- Senior Out To Lunch – March 18, 2016

Senior parents, we have completed the collection of the SENIOR ACTIVITY FEE of $325. All students who have not paid the $85 senior dues fee (includes the cap, gown, and diploma cover) must do so by Friday, April 15, 2016.
The Jaguar Boys Basketball Team is in action again this week against Cordova High School today at 7 PM at Cordova High School. Tonight’s matchup will determine if the team advances to the TSSAA State Basketball tournament. We need everyone to come to Cordova to support the team for this big game. The cost of the game is $8. SCS ID Badges will not allow employees to enter the game with a visitor. ALL SCS EMPLOYEES WILL HAVE TO PAY AT THE GATE.
As you might already know, the TN Ready Assessments will begin this Thursday, March 10, 2016 – Tuesday, March 15, 2016; there will be a makeup day on Wednesday, March 16, 2016. The testing schedule is as follows:
March 10 – Algebra I and English III
March 11 – Algebra II and English I
March 14 – English II and US History
March 15 – Geometry
March 16 – Makeup
All of the tests will last for ninety minutes, and students will be dismissed during first period to all testing locations. We need 100% attendance on these days 100% on Time! Please make sure that your student gets a good night’s rest and eats a good breakfast on the day of the test.
Last Friday, the Southwind High School Concert Choir and Women’s Chorus performed at the West Tennessee Vocal Music Education Association Choral Festival. Congratulations to the SHS Concert Choir on an Excellent Rating in Choral Performance and a Superior in Sight-reading. Congratulations to the Southwind High School Women’s Chorus on a Superior rating in Choral Performance and a Superior Rating in Sight-reading. Congratulations to Mr. Dante Webb and the students on their hard work and these noteworthy accomplishments. Way to go!
The SHS Fine Arts Department will present its first annual Arts Festival on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 on the school campus. Please come out and help us support the arts.
Southwind High School will open its Fine Arts and Music Education Academy during the 2016-2017 school year. All students must currently be enrolled in a first year fine arts course as a ninth grade student, audition through participation in a performance assessment, and submit an application. Students will be selected based upon their performance assessment. An announcement will be made here and during the morning announcements when students can pick up applications.
